ATA Flash Fiction Contest 2018 - Week 7 Anniversary Flash

Please note: This is the monthly judged contest. In addition to the winners badge, there will also be an honorable mention award (more depending on the number of entries). The winner of this anniversary contest will also receive a 3-month scholarship to the Author Transformation Alliance. Guidance from Audrey: "Move me. I want to be so deeply moved by what you write here. Show me how you can elicit deep and resonating emotional responses with your words. All literary devices to achieve that end are greatly appreciated."

Judging: This week's judge will be our own Audrey Hughey. Audrey has requested that you be given enough words to capture her imagination so be prepared...

All entries will be judged blind - meaning that all identifying information will be removed prior to the judge reading the entries.

Entries will be judged on the following:

  • Technical -

  • Basic writing mechanics

  • Complete sentences

  • Spelling

  • Grammar

  • Punctuation

  • Basic story mechanics

  • Beginning

  • Middle

  • End

  • Artistic

  • Story flow

  • Word usage

  • Memorability

  • Affect

  • Use of the prompt

  • Did the story deliver?

Please note, the word count for this contest 800-1000 words and the due date has been set to TUESDAY night at 11:59 PM EST


Specific Rules:

In the comments, submit a story inspired by the the song 'The Last Goodbye' by Billy Boyd from the movie series The Hobbit (link above) - word count 800-1000 words (not including title) Entries must be posted prior to Tuesday February 20th, 2018 at 23:59 EST

Winners will be announced on Friday, February 23rd at Noon
